2024 JUNIOR BOYS AFL CHAMPIONSHIPS

IGGYS WIN FIRST-EVER JUNIOR TITLE
What a way to end a Term jam packed full of football!
That’s what the Year 7 + 8 boys from GISSA-affiliated schools will be thinking after competing in the first-ever Junior Male AFL Championships.
For all of Term 2, Year 7 + 8 students who selected AFL as their chosen sport get to play against other GISSA schools in weekly matches on Wednesday afternoons.
However, this year – and going forward from 2024 – there was an added bonus!
The weekly GISSA matches culminated in a ‘carnival day, where the five teams involved played in a round-robin tournament to decide a Champion.
This year, that honour went to St Ignatius College. The boys in red, white and blue capped off a very successful nine-week long campaign by going through the Championship Day undefeated.
It came down to a battle between Iggys and Christian College Geelong, after the CCG Eagles just edged out Iona College on percentage to snatch the Grand Final spot.
In the end, Iggys were too strong, pulling away from the Eagles in the second half of the decider to win comfortably by 36 points.
