SACRED HEART OFF TO HERALD SUN SHIELD
Sacred Heart is set to represent GISSA at this year’s AFL Victoria Herald Sun Shield after advancing through this year’s Senior Female Championships.
The girls in blue and white earned the right to take on the best in the state by surviving another high-quality tournament featuring six teams made up of students from Year 11 and 12.
Drawn in to Pool A, Sacred Heart won both of their qualifying matches to advance through to the Grand Final, where they met a familiar opponent – Clonard College, the champion of Pool B and the other all-girls school participating in the Event.
Unfortunately, the Grand Final between the two teams needed to be ended early, due to an injury suffered by one of the players.
With Sacred Heart in control of the game at the time of the injury, Clonard College had no hesitation in conceding that their opponents deserved to be crowned champions and receive passage to the Herald Sun Shield pathway.
This Event was another showcase of excellent football, and it must’ve had the scouts from Geelong Falcons and other local clubs very excited about the calibre of players in the Geelong area.
Sacred Heart will now gear up for another tilt at the Herald Sun Shield, having represented GISSA in this pathway every year since it was opened up by AFL Victoria.
Sacred Heart will take on the champions of the other school sporting associations around the State in a knockout tournament set to begin in Term 3.
