2024 SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS

St. Ignatius College Geelong and Geelong College continue to rule the surf!

What an event we had in Torquay this year, with mother nature creating the perfect playground for our male and female surfers to strut their stuff.

This Event was initially scheduled to be staged at Jan Juc, however the decision was made on the morning of the Event to shift down the Great Ocean Road to Torquay, due to the large swell building up at the iconic surf beach.

The conditions at Torquay, however, provided the ideal scenario for the Year 7 to Year 12 students who participated: safe enough to compete, but also big waves to ride… and ride they did!

Students in the male and female divisions certainly made the most of the formiddable breaks, producing some of the highest scoring waves and biggest highlights ever seen at the GISSA Surfing Championships.

Well done to all students who put on a wetsuit and took on the challenging conditions.

In the end, it was the boys in red, white and blue that triumphed in the senior male section, with St. Ignatius reclaiming the seat on the throne that they have owned for many years when it comes to the ocean.

‘Iggys’ edged out Iona (2nd), Christian College Geelong (3rd) and Kardinia International College (4th) in what was a highly competitive and entertaining Final for the spectators to enjoy.

It was the same in the female section, with Geelong College emerging victorious in another excellent showcase of skill and poise that also featured the CCG Eagles in 2nd and Kardinia in 3rd.

Please see below for all the Results from this year’s GISSA Surfing Championships – and we look forward to seeing everyone on the beach again in 2025.
