2023 - SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

OVERVIEW

KARDINIA INTERNATIONAL COLLEGE HAS MADE IT BACK-TO-BACK TITLE VICTORIES

COMING OFF THEIR RESURGENT TRIUMPH AT THE 2022 EVENT, THE BOYS AND GIRLS IN BLUE WERE ABLE TO REPEAT THEIR SUCCESS BY WINNING THE OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP AT THIS YEAR’S EDITION.

The 2023 version had a new feel about it, as the Event started in the morning and was contained entirely within normal School Hours – a change-up from the normal format which has traditionally begun in the afternoon and finished in the early evening.

But while the format had changed, the overall outcome did not, with Kardinia winning the overall Champions Shield for the sixth time, making the School the winningest Team in the Championships’ history.

However it wasn’t quite the same dominant performance that punctuated their 2022 effort.

Runner-up Christian College Geelong (2,401) points came within just 100 points of toppling Kardinia (2,501 points) for the Overall Championships, a difference that could have been made up by different results in just a few Individual or Relay Events.

The signs for the future are good for the CCG Eagles, with their Junior Male Team – which is made up of the 13, 14 and 15 Years Age Groups (mostly Year 7 to Year 9 students) able to snatch the Junior Male Shield.

There was silverware, too, for The Geelong College, who claimed the Senior Female Age Group Shield – which is made up of the 16 and Open Years Age Groups (mostly Year 10 to Year 12 students).

All other Shields went to Kardinia – the Junior Female, Senior Male, Overall Female and, of course, the Overall Champions.

See below for a breakdown of the Final Standings for each of these Shields and Age + Gender Categories.

Each student who competed for Kardinia or the CCG Eagles in the Age Groups for which they won a Shield were awarded a GISSA Medal.

Generally speaking, the standard of swimming was exceptional, with students from all Schools who participated providing one of the most enjoyable Events for spectators in recent memory.

There were 9 Individual Event Records broken at this year’s Meet. Please click on the PDF File below to see which records were broken, and by whom, in 2023.

Individual ‘Age Level Champion’ Awards are not given out to students at the Swimming Championships – instead a first, second, or third place ribbon is up for grabs for all 90 Events.

To see which students collected ribbons for finishing in the Top 3 Placings for each Event, please click on the PDF File below – which includes every student’s Results from every Race.
