GISSA has a new Chief Executive.

Jarrod Waight from Kardinia International College has stepped into the role for 2023, and for at least the next 3 years.

Jarrod was most recently the Head of Sport at Kardinia for 11 years before agreeing to take over the top job at GISSA.

Jarrod is still a teacher and employee at Kardinia, however most of his time is now focussed on his ever-expanding role with GISSA.

Outside of Education, Jarrod is also employed by the AFL as a part-time Umpires Coach, and was an accomplished Umpire himself, having officiated in over 150 VFL and TAC Junior State League matches.

Originally from Ballarat, Jarrod now lives on the Bellarine Peninsula with his wife and three children.

This is the first time the Executive Officer position had been filled by anyone outside of Christian College Geelong.

Up until this year, it has been customary for the Director of Sport at CCG to also act as the GISSA Convener in a dual role since the inception of the Association over 20 years ago.

The role of the GISSA Executive Officer is to deliver the Association’s wide-ranging Sport Programs on behalf of its 10 Member Schools to the approximately 6000 students that could potentially be involved throughout a school year.

Jarrod takes over from Andrew Richardson, who is the current Head of Sport at Christian College Geelong.

Andrew will remain a key personality within the Association, having assumed the role of Secretary for the newly-appointed GISSA Board of Directors, and he is also a close liaison and mentor for Jarrod.

Jarrod said he was excited about the new opportunity, and was looking forward to expanding the Association’s profile to an even higher level throughout the Geelong Region.

“I am very passionate about helping GISSA maintain its current high standing, and also to help it grow in the future,” he said.  “I am very fortunate to be taking over from such a high-regarded school sport administrator and educator, like Andrew Richardson.

“Andrew has done an incredible job in growing GISSA during his tenure and establishing exceptional working relationships with so many key stakeholders across the Geelong Region and State Sporting Bodies across Victoria.

“I am very fortunate to not only step into a role that has such high-quality processes already in place, but also to have Andrew still involved in GISSA to use as a sounding board.”

Jarrod said he wanted to thank the Leadership and Heads of Sport at each of the Association’s 10 Member Schools for the support he had already received, and that he will continue to receive in the future.

“The strength of our Association is that it has never been about one person or a small group of people doing the heavy lifting. We all do it together,” Jarrod said.

“As a group of Schools, we pride ourselves on the collegiate and collaborative approach we have always taken to deliver our Programs to our students,” he said.

“That’s the way it has always been, and that’s the way it will continue to be.

My role is to continue to foster and facilitate that culture.

“I have worked with so many of the people involved in our Association for a long time, so I know I will be well supported in this role.”
